Trifle in a Jar Recipe | Quick & Easy Gift in a Jar ideas

Trifle in a jar gift idea

Everyone in my family love a trifle dessert, so I thought it would be a cute idea to create tasty trifle jars for everyone as a little homemade gift to go alongside the rest of their presents this Christmas. As a trifle doesn't need to be cooked, its a great quick, cheap and easy treat to throw together perfect for a gift or to make for a party so everyone has their own personalised one with a name tag.

The jars are from Wilkinson's, I brought 12 jars for £3 and they fit 190ml inside. I made 6 jars of trifles and had plenty of ingredients left over to make for another day. It depends on the size of your jars and how many you want to make, so the amount of ingredients you need is up to you, but here's what I used.

Ingredients:
1 pack of trifle sponges
135g (1 pack) of Hartley's strawberry jelly
400g (1 tin) Ready to serve Ambrosia custard
300ml Fresh Double Cream

Extras: Strawberry's and sprinkles of dark chocolate to finish it off.

To make:
1. Break up the sponges and line the bottom of the jar with them.
2. Separate the jelly into cubes and put them in a measuring jug, add half a pint of hot water and mix until the cubes have dissolved and then add half a pint of cold water and mix again.
3. Pour the jelly over the sponges in the jar, stop when you get to a level you think is enough, keeping in mind the other layers.
4. Put the jars of jelly into the fridge and wait for them to set.
5. Once set take out the jelly (here you could add a layer of strawberry's) and pour over the ready to serve custard.
6. Whip up the fresh double cream until its thick and creamy, and pile it on-top of the custard.
7. Sprinkle with any topping you like, and decorate the jar with a name tag and bow for a cute personalised touch.
